Millennials may find fitness motivation these days watching Zac Efron or Chris Hemsworth on the silver screen, but when it comes to distinguishing a similar figure for boomers, one man stands alone as the champ.
Here’s a hint, he has starred in a more than a dozen blockbusters with his shirt off, many of which featured intense workout scenes with iconic anthems from the 1980’s playing in the background. You guessed it: Sylvester Stallone.
This time, The Italian Stallion is not stepping into the ring – he’s heading back into combat. Stallone, now 72, is reprising his role as John Rambo for a fifth movie in the series.
Naturally, he is hitting the gym in preparation for filming, so Stallone gave fans a glimpse behind the scenes of his workout in a recent Instagram post.
If there was any question as to whether the A-list Hollywood movie star lost any luster, it ought to be squashed by the 3 million views amassed by the 15-second video.
Few can rival Stallone’s prodigious career, which now spans nearly five decades, and there is no doubt his sculpted physique has been key to his success. He inspired millions of people around the world to pursue an active lifestyle before it became the popular mainstream paradigm it is today.
Stallone’s workout music is more telling of his age than his physique. The shameless pride of seasoned gym rat listening to Guns N Roses during his workout and then declaring “Welcome to the jungle,” after finishing a set is not exactly becoming of a young man.
Simply put, he is a pioneer in the fitness world, amalgamating body building with the production demands of Tinseltown to create beloved action franchises.
Even in his twilight years, Stallone continues to inspire men and women. The world does not often see another figure so unique, so it is wise to appreciate him and his legacy, even as he continues to add to it.
